First week in the new math position

Summer school has started and my position has been changed from being a middle school self-contained classroom teacher to teaching all the students at SEC math. It is scary and exciting at the same time because I have limited experience teaching high school mathematics, but it brings me back to my content area, which is more comforting to me… (and less stress in planning).

The students are interesting. Various grade levels by age but trying to figure out their academic levels and coming up with a plan of attack is going to lead to individualized instruction for many of the students.  Some of the main differences are that I have a few high school students that are looking for challenging work…and with them, I will take an aggressive approach. Others are ehhhhh to say the least and coaxing them to participate in math activities will be the challenge (especially of the summer).

The first week went off without a hitch, even though the schedule was in flux, staff was out, clinical decided to throw a wrench in the schedule by canceling groups and the middle schoolers were in minor crisis because of adjustments.

Regardless…I am super excited for what is going to be forthcoming!
